While our effort is focused on legislative efforts rather than the initiative process, we hold on to the name 'Washington Internet Poker Initiative' because we are players taking the initiative to press for internet poker authorization and regulation legislation on our own. To that end, it is incumbent upon we, the players, to reach out to our elected lawmakers, let them hear from us that we want to see the game made available to us without threat of criminal prosecution, rather with local brands offering the top platforms in a regulated environment.
Find your legislators' e-mail information and write to them. You may not get a reply on the first try, but do not give up. Send another, and another, until those elected to serve their constituents respond to you, and take a position. If they don't hear from you, how can we expect them to act on our behalf? We must get their attention, and we are doing what we can to make that easy for you.
We have created a sample letter, and made it available to you. You can copy and paste it in its entirety, simply adding your legislator's name in the salutation, and your own in the closing. Making sure to include the links provides your legislator with additional information that may help him/her see the value of regulation over the current criminal prohibition.
Also, be sure and visit the 2015 Legislature page. There you will find 'click to tweet' links to send your message through this important and effective social media channel. Use these links often, at least until you get a positive response. These are editable as well, so you can change up the message as you see fit.
We won't get it until we ask for it, and they won't know we want it until we tell them. Your participation is essential.
